Prevention Program

The Prevention Program’s goal is to prevent sexual violence before it occurs as well as lessen the immediate and long-term harms of sexual violence by working with youth and their parents, teachers and caregivers.

We use a public health strategy to increase protective factors against violence, teaching skills to prevent harm, provide opportunities for leadership and mentorship, and supporting youth to lessen harm. Our primary prevention programing includes Peer Advocacy Council (PAC), Let’s Talk: Leadership Cohort, and Prevention Partnerships.

Peer Advocacy Council

PAC is a group for 9th-12th graders who work together to explore building healthy relationships, setting boundaries, responding when violence happens, and preventing violence in the first place. PAC youth practice skills that empower them to have these conversations with their peers and communities. PAC equips young leaders with the skills to change their communities.

PAC Provides

  • Community involvement

  • Creative outlets

  • Leadership-building

  • Mentorship

  • Confidence Building

Let’s Talk: Leadership Cohort

The Rape Recovery Center’s Let’s Talk: Leadership Cohort is a four-week conversation series that was created in response to a need for sexual violence prevention education for men from refugee and new American communities. Few non-English speaking community members can access these violence prevention programs due to barriers such as lack of interpretation services and cultural understanding.

In Utah, statistics show that more than 84% of survivors know their perpetrators. The statistics speak for themselves. We can do something to raise awareness and work to prevent sexual violence from happening.

The Let’s Talk: Leadership Cohort engages men and boys on topics such as:

  • Ways to prevent sexual violence in their communities

  • Healthy relationships

  • Gender roles

  • Violence against women

  • Supporting families
